Zipless is the future
We are constantly looking for new ways to improve our products and be more sustainable. We take changes very seriously and only do so when we feel there is a major gain. We don't want our customers to be told to buy something new and stop using a previous garment unless it is a vast improvement.
For our Pro Jersey, with today's technical fabrics, we felt that in 99% of weather conditions there is no need for a zip to aid temperature regulation. Most riders wear a base layer even when it's really hot anyway. There's the added aerodynamic and weight advantages, but we all know the saving will be extremely marginal.
We are not the first company to do this but, we see another very important reason for cyclists to switch to a Zipless jersey - to reduce the amount of plastic we are using.
Sadly, most cycling clothing is made from polyester, elastane and Lycra which are all plastic derivatives. We are working to use fabrics that are made from recycled plastics in the coming months and years but unfortunately for cyclists, the technical requirements of the fabrics mean that there simply is not the recycled options available yet.
We hope that cyclists will see the Zipless as step forward with the added bonus that it means the designs will not be broken by the zip. As you can see from our first customer - Nice Brew (above) - the look may take a little time to get used to, but we truly believe this is the future and would like to think that all our jerseys will be zipless in the next few years.
