Founded in December 2018, Velouse Flyers is a new club based in Kings Lynn.
It’s “a club for people who want to improve, it can be any type of improvement such as health, fitness, mental strength, life style, confidence, The list could be endless, we never stop learning. The club is all about learning, teaching and experiencing things together through activities and adventure. The club is run by everyone, decisions are voted on by the members, any member can put forward ideas and propose changes.”
Velouse get involved in a number of disciplines from road cycling, Cyclocross and time-trials to running go-ride events for younger cyclists. Not shy of an adventure, some of the Flyers headed into the rugged British countryside for a bikepacking trip recently:
“We went to mid and north Wales on a 3 day bike-packing Adventure covering 200 miles and 21,000ft of climbing on all types of terrain. We shared a tent and carried everything else we needed for the whole trip on our bikes. This basically doubles the weight of our bikes and make handling interesting. We were burning at least an extra 5000 kilocalories a day, so this time we took small stoves, couscous, noodles, and some lovely but heavy “Wayfayrer Meals” these have the benefit that they can be eaten hot or cold. Even more important than food we had coffee! Having been running and riding off-road all winter we hoped our legs would be ok but riding between 5 and 7 hours a day we were not so sure about out behinds. Thankfully we didn’t need to worry our new club kit from Miltag is amazing, so comfortable day after day. Wales is ideal for bikepacking the terrain is challenging and it’s mostly quiet and remote with some stunning scenery, you can go hours without barely seeing another sole.”
As ever, the design of the kit was central to the custom process.
“First of all we came up with the name which is a combination of Vélo (bike) and Ouse which is the river that runs through Kings Lynn where we are based. We had a design in mind and came up with a simple prototype with the colours Teal and Norfolk gold which is the county we are from. Then with your expert help and knowledge three great interpretations of our design we’re produced and we picked one of those.”
“The kit is superb, we have the pro version and the quality is top end and the fit is a proper race fit which we like and very comfortable. The chamois is the best we have ever tried and it’s been well tested.”
Velouse Flyers have further adventures in Belgium and Scotland planned this year. You can follow their progress on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/velouseflyers/
