Tour of Oman Stage1
The ninth edition of the Tour of Oman got underway today and Bryan Coquard (Vital Concept) took the race lead after a bunch sprint victory ahead of Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data). Italian Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo) completed the top three on the opening day of competition in Oman, which comprised 162.5 kilometres from Nizwa to the Sultan Qaboos University.
As the first jerseys are awarded ahead of the second stage, we thought it apt to share with you the inspiration that lead to the creation of the leader’s jerseys – Leader in red, Sprint in Green, Youth in White and Most Aggressive in Gold.
The pattern that features on the jerseys came from the traditional Arabian and Islamic geometric designs that began over a thousand years ago and can be found in a variety of art and architecture including the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat.
It is of paramount importance to us that when designing jerseys for races that they draw from the identity of the location to maximise their own individuality and add extra pride for the race organisers. The pattern may be subtle but it matters a great deal to us and those associated with a race as it sets it apart from the huge number of other races with a basic one-colour jersey.
