Brought together by the experience of racing against each other, OCTÄVE was created to be the banner under which we could race together.
We created a team that we could shape to fit the experiences we seeked. By standing side by side on the start line provide we created platform we wanted to learn the craft of racing together. OCTÄVE was not to be a replacement for our clubs at the weekend, but somewhere we all shared the same ambition to experience all that the world of competitive bike racing had to offer and openly talk about our experiences.
We’re honest about the where on the spectrum of experience and performance we all fall, but that only fuels more the ambition and effort we put into our racing. In the short time we have existed we have already racked up impressive wins and results on the track, road and cyclocross circuit in and around London. What's more important to us however, is making a race out of everything we enter, making sure we animate races where we can, punch above our weight and not be afraid to ride as a team. Sitting in and sprinting for 8th is not in our nature.
From the very beginning the size of the team has been important to us. We wanted everyone know each other through clubs, friendship or racing and that’s something we look to continue with any additions we look to make to the team. This means that we remain a small team and gives us all control of our direction by being able to touch all four corners of what we have created.
This is where our relationship with Milltag became so valuable. The low minimum order quantity combined with value and quality all opened the door for us, but what pushed us over the line was the relationship they enabled us to have with them. When we first spoke we had a kit 90% designed, but still hadn’t decided on a name so Ed basically picked our name for us from a shortlist. Milltag worked closely with us to help us through that last 10% and translate what seems like a simple kit at first glance into a performance garment that contained all of the details and intricacies we’d taken so long working over as a team.
After the successful creation of 2 batches of team racing kit, we set out to create a training and warmup package of kit that departed from our original simpler art direction we’d pinned the first year of our existence on. Together we created the DÄZZLE gilet, cap, snood and musette as the first of many editions of kit we plan to work on with Milltag as we continue to develop what OCTÄVE means to us and our experiences of racing.
